16U GIRLS - ONTARIO CHAMPIONSHIPS
WHAT A WAY TO END THE SEASON..........GOLD!!!!!
The U16 Girl's Ontario Championship were held this past weekend at RIM park and the 16U Tigers Black were ranked 41st out of 56 teams. This ranking had them in Division 2 starting in 9th place. All 3 games on Friday went 3 sets but the girls kept their composure and won them all, giving them 1st in their pool. On day 2, it was now the power pools to see who would be placed in the top tier for Sunday's playoffs. Too many unforced errors led to the girl's losing 3 very close matches to the Hawks, Fusion and Hurricanes. This outcome put the girls in Tier 2 for the playoffs on Sunday. The girls knew they hadn't played their best volleyball on Saturday but came in Sunday morning with their heads held high and they were determined that they would still go home with a medal.
Since they had a bye straight into the quarters, they sat anxiously watching and waiting to see who their next opponent would be. It would be the Royal City Renegades and they stood in the way of the girls making the semis to guarantee a chance at a medal. They came out flying and took care of the Renegades in 2 straight sets. Now, the girls knew they would play for a medal, but what colour? They wanted nothing but Gold at this point and were determined to get it. The semi-final had them play the Ballhawks from Chatham and again they won in 2 straight sets. They now had the chance to win what they had their minds set on at the beginning of the day.
The Gold medal match would be against the Brant Tornadoes, a team they had beaten in pool play on Friday afternoon. The girls had fire in their eyes when they stepped on the court and were determined that this game was theirs for the taking. The girls left their best volleyball of the year for this day and it paid off tremendously. They beat the Tornadoes in 2 straight sets and the Gold was theirs!!!!
It was an unbelievable show of determination on their part and congratulations go out to the girls and to Henry and Peter for their outstanding season.
Also, a big thank you to all the parents for their support throughout the year!!
WAY TO GO GIRLS, YOU'RE PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONS!!!!

The first tournament was held on Saturday Dec. 5/09 and the girls were raring to go and get on the court. Overall they played quite well with a few bumps along the way.
Their first game in pool play was against the top ranked team, the Scarborough Titans and they fell short in 2 sets. Now that the jitters of the first match were gone they got to business and split with the Selects 94. Ending up 2nd in their pool they would have to face the Hurricanes Blues in the pre-quarters where their confidence as a team started to blossom with a 3rd set win.
This now put them in quarters which a win would put them in medal contention. After waiting more than 2 1/2 hours they finally got to play the Burlington Blaze but the long wait seemed to take something out of their game and they lost in 2 sets.
This put the Tigers into the Consolation round to play for 5th place against Mac and regrettably fell short in 2 sets and ended up placing 7th.
Good job girls!!

16U Girls McGregor Cup-January 9 2010-Trillium Zone A
This past Saturday, the girls U16 Tigers Black started out playing the Forest City Blue 15U. The first set saw the girls put up a good fight only to lose 25-18. Now that they had a set under their belt they put together a much better effort with a tight battle to draw even in sets with a 25-21 win. The second game was against the Select 94 and it was battle back and forth with the Tigers getting the short end of a 26-24 score. This would not discourage the girls and they came back with a well deserved 25-14 win in the second set with the outstanding serving of the whole team. All the teams split their games in pool play and it came down to point differential and after everything was calculated, the girls found themselves in unfamiliar territory...1st in Pool D and a trip directly to the Quarter-finals.
The long wait until Quarters did not effect the girls at all, they came out flying with to pound MAC 25-14 in the first set. In the second set the girls found themselves down 14-2 early but battled back only to lose 25-21. The girls knew a win in the 3rd set would put them into the semi-finals with a date against the Tigers U15 team. They regrouped and led the 3rd set at the midway point 8-6 and battled back and forth for every point, but came up short 16-14 in the end.
The girls were disappointed but didn't let that get them down when it came to the game against the Chatham Ballhawks for 5th place. They came out with all guns blazing and destroyed them 25-10 in the first set with an 11 straight serve run by Rachel Woolley and huge blocks from Kate Glendon, Jessica Clancy and Liza Klassen.. The second set didn't go as well as the first and Tigers lost 25-15. Once again it was down to a 3rd set to determine the winner. It was quite noticeable that the girls were running out of steam, but they pulled it together and won it 15-13 with a game saving dive by Shelby Wagner to set up the final point.
The girls ended the tournament in 5th place and had a remarkable 93% serve percentage for the tournament.
Excellent Job!!

February 20, 2010-Trillium A
This will be a day the girls will never forget.
From the start of the day they had fire in their eyes and were determined to go home with nothing less than a medal. After 3 tournaments of getting knocked into the 5th/7th game in the 3rd set and losing each time by no more than 2 points, they kicked their game into high gear. In pool play they basically destroyed all their competition beating each team without dropping a set. In the first game they beat the U16 Sharks 25-9 and 25-10. The second game they beat the Forest City Blue 25-18 and 25-16. The final pool play match they make quick work of the Guelph Grizzles 25-8 and 25-12. Placing 1st in their pool gave them a direct trip to the quarter finals and a 3 ½ hour wait to play. The girls were pumped to get the match started and vowed to make it to the semi final game for a chance at a medal.
The quarter final had them up against the Selects and from start to finish the girls dominated the match with amazing serving, passing, blocking and hitting. When all was said and done the girls found themselves where they wanted to be from the start of the day, in the semi finals winning 25-12 and 25-17. They had finally got over the bump to play for a medal, and they were ecstatic. Never being in this positon before, the girls were quite nervous going into the semi final game with Impact 15U. The nerves and long day were taking its toll on them and they fell in 3 sets 14-25, 25-15 and 10-15. Even though they lost and were not playing for gold or silver they still had their sites set on the bronze. The Cambridge Hawks were their opponent and the play of the girls from the morning seemed to creep back in serve by serve. They started making key serves and hits and when all was said and done, the goal they set at the beginning of the day was accomplished winning 26-24, 19-25 and 15-8 to secure the bronze.
This tournament saw these girls work together like never before as a team and had an outstanding 93% serving percentage and an amazing 26 service aces throughout the day. This was truly a team effort and they played awesome.
Congratulations
